ANTENATAL CLASSES We run informal, friendly antenatal classes, covering all aspects of pregnancy, birth and life with a new baby. They are either intensive weekend courses or in the evenings over an 8 week period so partners can attend and over the course you can get to know other parents-to-be and hopefully form lasting friendships. People are encouraged to join in with Bumps & Babes sessions and Pop in & Play sessions. Our teachers and breastfeeding counsellors undergo a thorough training; they are not required to be medically qualified. All teachers and counsellors keep up to date with the latest developments in maternity care and must re-register with us every year. They do not offer medical advice and parents are asked to take any questions about the medical care of mother and baby to their midwife, health visitor or doctor. All those who attend our classes are offered one to one postnatal support if they would like it. All classes will include Breastfeeding sessions and a re-union once all the babies have been born. For further details, view or download our Antenatal Class Information presentation.
Please note that the NCT has introduced a new system for Antenatal bookings, which are now all organised by paid Parent Services Administrators covering much larger geographical areas. Mendip is part of a group which also covers Frome, NE Somerset, Taunton, Salisbury & S Wilts, N Dorset & W Wilts, Yeovil, Sherborne & District, Weymouth & Dorchester, Bridport and South Dorset. If you have any queries about antenatal or post-natal classes in Mendip or any of the above surrounding areas please contact Kath Curtis on 0870 4239258 or email bookings3b@nct.org.uk. Alternatively you can search for classes near you from the main NCT website at www.nct.org.uk. |
