BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT

You are welcome in the NCT however you decide to feed your baby. The NCT strives to ensure that all women have information about the benefits of breastfeeding to both mother and baby before they make their choice of feeding. At all Open House gatherings or other activities mothers are welcome to breastfeed at any time and a separate room will be made available if they or their babies prefer. Bottle warming facilities will also be available.

Breastfeeding Counsellors

NCT trained Breastfeeding Counsellors offer their services free of charge to all new mothers, to help them establish and continue breastfeeding. They can offer information and support to parents on many aspects of baby feeding including weaning and returning to work etc. Ideally each branch should have a breastfeeding counsellor but at present Mendip Branch are without one (we have one person currently training for this job).

If you would like to talk to a breastfeeding counsellor the NCT now has a breastfeeding line open from 8am until 10pm seven days a week. Calls are charged at national rates. At other times you will hear a recorded message giving names and numbers of four breastfeeding counsellors who are happy to take out of hours calls.

If for any reason you can't get through - phone the Enquiry Line (office hours 9.30am to 5pm Monday-Thursday and 9.30am to 4.30pm on Friday). A member of the enquiry team will give you the numbers of your nearest breastfeeding counsellors.

Breast Pump Hire

If your baby is not able to feed at the breast or is too weak or ill to suckle vigorously or as often as normal, you may need to use an electric breast pump to help maintain your milk supply.
